Wedding Gown shops however are a world apart from sweatshops, all girls at some stage in their lives have stopped outside a wedding dress shop in awe. In fact I am still guilty of it now.
So luxurious, and so much choice! There will be a whole host of designer brands available in most of these bridesmaid dress shop, unless it is a designers boutique. The dresses in the shops will be samples, each bride will select a few to try on if you fall in love and order one the shop will take your measurements, after they have sent these off the supplier will most likely only look at one measurement, the bust measurement.
It is a trick taught at the most basic level of dressmaking, (make to fit the bust and alter). The supplier will look at what standard size is closet to your bust measurement and that will be the dress they will make/send if they carry stock.
When the shop receives the discount bridesmaid dresses from the supplier they will invite you in for a fitting. If you are a standard size chances are it will fit, if you have a big bust but a small waist you will need to pay extra to use their alteration service.
I have heard all sorts of horror stories and will not name and shame, however there are many excellent dress shops out there; where you will not encounter a problem. But please be careful ladies. The last thing we need a few weeks before the wedding is an ill fitting purple bridesmaids dresses or one which you are not happy with.
